Stetson Bennett, who spent his rookie season with the Rams away from the field, has returned to Los Angeles with a renewed focus. Bennett, who spent several months back home in Georgia, is determined to make an impact this season. His journey begins with securing a spot on the 53-man roster, and he’s embracing a unique approach to stay focused: switching back to a flip phone.
In a recent interview on “UNRESERVED with TJ Callaway,” Bennett shared his decision to ditch his smartphone, saying, “I gotta stop. I gotta grow up a little bit on that. I gotta stop. It just doesn’t matter. To be a starting quarterback in the NFL, you gotta be able to – I mean, we are the entertainment, which is cool and it is an honor. Luckiest thing in the world, but I can’t, like, shy away from it. Just look at it in the face and even if I don’t play well, then yeah, I don’t play well and go to work the next day.”
Bennett acknowledges the distractions of social media and aims to eliminate them by using a flip phone. He added, “The main reason why I got it is because I think it’s cool. It’s not very productive for getting back to people. I will say this: Going to the NFL, a lot of those guys, not good at it either. I don’t know what it is, maybe we’re just super conceited and selfish.”
Currently, Bennett is the third quarterback on the depth chart, behind Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo. With Garoppolo suspended for the first two weeks of the season, Bennett has a chance to step up as QB2 during that period. Regardless of the challenges, Bennett is committed to making the 53-man roster and contributing to the team, even if it means starting as the third quarterback.
