On a scorching evening at Chavez Ravine, with temperatures soaring above 80 degrees, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers combined for an impressive seven home runs. The highlight of the night came from none other than Shohei Ohtani.
In the fifth inning, Ohtani nearly made history by almost becoming the seventh player to hit a ball completely out of Dodger Stadium. He launched an 86 mph cutter from Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford, sending the ball 473 feet. The powerful shot soared just under the pavilion roof, marking Ohtani’s 30th home run of the season.
Only six players have managed to hit home runs out of Dodger Stadium, with Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres being the most recent on September 30, 2021. Other names on this exclusive list include Giancarlo Stanton, Mark McGwire, Mike Piazza, and Willie Stargell.
Ohtani’s 473-foot blast ties for the third longest home run of the season, sharing the spot with Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels. Ohtani previously held the top spot for the longest homer of 2024 with a 476-foot hit against the Colorado Rockies on June 18, a record surpassed earlier on Sunday by Jorge Soler of the San Francisco Giants with a 478-foot home run at Coors Field.
The Dodgers triumphed over the Red Sox, 9-6, completing a three-game sweep of the visiting team.
