Kenley Jansen, who spent 12 remarkable years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has expressed a strong desire to return to his former team and retire in Dodger blue.
During an interview on the Foul Territory show, Jansen shared his hopes, stating, ‘I want to see myself retiring in Dodger blue.’ Despite his enthusiasm, he acknowledged the uncertainty of this dream, saying, ‘But is it a reality? No. I don’t know because I don’t have control over that. Also, I don’t know what they’re thinking and at the end of the day, it’s a business.’
Jansen, initially signed by the Dodgers in 2004 as an international free agent from Curacao, made a name for himself as one of the league’s top closers. His impressive tenure included three All-Star appearances, a top-five Cy Young award finish, and a franchise-record 350 saves. He also played a crucial role in the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series championship.
After the 2021 season, Jansen moved to the Atlanta Braves for a year before joining the Boston Red Sox, where he continued to shine, earning an All-Star nod in 2023. This season, Jansen has maintained his elite status with a 2.01 ERA and 18 saves in 31 appearances.
Speculations about a potential reunion with the Dodgers have circulated since the offseason, and with the trade deadline approaching, Jansen could be a viable option for the team. Even if a trade doesn’t materialize, he will be a free agent at the end of the year, leaving the door open for a possible return to Los Angeles.
While the Dodgers have not publicly stated their intentions regarding Jansen, the 36-year-old has made his feelings clear: he wants to finish his storied career where it all began, with the Dodgers.
