John McEnroe gives Jannik Sinner the secret to beating Novak Djokovic at Australian Open

John McEnroe claims that the key to stopping Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open lies within, as Jannik Sinner is in “the best position ever” to usurp the Serb in their upcoming semi-final. Djokovic has won four of the last five editions of the Grand Slam and 10 overall, with Sinner and then either Alexander Zverev or Daniil Medvedev standing in his way of another.

Djokovic also equalled Monica Seles’ record of 33 consecutive wins at the Major, which he could break on Friday against Sinner. However, the 22-year-old has been in blistering form Down Under and has not lost a single set at the Australian Open, with McEnroe insisting that he needs to believe that he can win in order to claim a momentous victory.

“Novak is playing incredible tennis. The key for anyone to beat him, including Sinner, is do they deep down in the heart of hearts have the belief that they can beat Novak,” McEnroe told Eurosport.

“This is a mental game when you’re out there on your own. This is a physical game, yes, and you have your coach on the sidelines, but this is about believing and executing your game plan and thinking you can beat that one person on the other side of the court.
