Dodgers Activate Ryan Brasier from Injured List, Call Up Bobby Miller to Start

Ryan Brasier, who had been on the 60-day injured list due to a right calf strain, was activated by the Dodgers on Saturday. He had last pitched for the team on April 27. Brasier missed a total of 93 games before his return. Additionally, the Dodgers called up Bobby Miller to start in Saturday’s game against the Cardinals, stepping in for the injured Tyler Glasnow.

During Brasier’s two-week minor league rehab assignment, he appeared in eight games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, pitching 12 scoreless innings. In these outings, he allowed only four singles and one walk while striking out 12 batters. Notably, Brasier pitched on consecutive days on August 7 and 8, marking the first time he had done so since April when he was still with the Dodgers. In his final rehab appearance on Wednesday, Brasier recorded four outs.

Brasier, who had a successful stint with the Dodgers after joining the team in June 2023, signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the team in February. So far in the season, he has posted a 4.63 ERA and a 3.81 xERA across 12 games, striking out 12 batters and issuing three walks over 11⅔ innings. Brasier was added back to the 40-man roster, taking the spot vacated when Amed Rosario was designated for assignment.

As for Bobby Miller, it’s been a challenging year. He missed 10 weeks due to shoulder inflammation and has struggled in the majors, recording an 8.07 ERA and a 6.09 xERA over seven starts. His last major league appearance on July 9 saw him give up nine runs in just four innings against the Phillies, leading to his option to the minors. In Triple-A, Miller had a 5.54 ERA over 13 innings in three starts, with an equal number of walks and strikeouts (11 each). Despite being scratched from a start on August 2 due to adductor tightness, Miller returned on August 9, striking out six in 4⅓ innings while allowing three runs.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was uncertain about Miller’s return to the majors, emphasizing the importance of health and performance. However, due to the team’s limited options, Miller was called up to join the team in St. Louis.

Wrobleski, who earned his first major league win in Friday’s series opener, was optioned after allowing four runs, including three home runs, in five innings. Meanwhile, Michael Grove, who pitched in five games after being activated last week, was also optioned after a shaky performance on Friday, where he allowed two runs and walked two of the three batters he faced.
