ALONSO FEELS BETTER THAN HE EVER WAS AFTER SIGNING..

Fernando Alonso, the two-time Formula 1 World Champion insists that he feels better than he ever was, now at the age of 42.

Alonso delivered an impressive season in 2023, bagging eight podiums as he made the best out of an early advantage of his Aston Martin F1 team, as their AMR23 started the previous season as second fastest behind Red Bull’s RB19.

The Spaniard showed that he has lost none of his racing prowess, his wheel to wheel skills as good as ever, as he goes on defying time and age.

Alonso believes that his long experience in F1, that started back in 2001 with Minardi, is the reason why he now feels he is such a complete package as a driver.

In the Fuelling Around podcast, Formula 1 reporter Rachel Brooks revealed a chat with Alonso discussing his competitiveness and how he feels as he is currently the oldest driver on the grid.

Brooks said: “I did something with him and Lance (Stroll) earlier this year and it was away from the cameras.

“We were going between two sites and I was just chatting to him and I just said to him: ‘Do you ever worry there’s going to be a point where you feel like ‘I’m losing my edge, I’m losing my reaction time or my spacial awareness is diminishing’ because he’s in his 40s. And he said to me ‘no’.

“He said: ‘I’m better than I ever was. I’m actually driving better, thinking better and functioning better than I was in my 20s. He said ‘it’s because of everything I’ve learned along the way that I’m now able to do this’.

“You talk to other drivers and they’re like ‘no, I got to 40 and I started to lose pace or this, or that, or the other’ but he feels right now, he says, that he’s the best he’s ever been,” Brooks concluded.

Alonso is now gearing up for his second season with Aston Martin in 2024, his 22nd campaign in top flight. He has raced for several teams over his career in addition to Minardi and Aston Martin which are Renault, Ferrari, McLaren, and Alpine.
