Casey Elliott, the son of Ernie Elliott, Bill Elliott‘s brother and the engine wizard behind the Elliott family’s NASCAR triumphs in the 80s, had racing in his blood. As a teen, he jumped behind the wheel, embarking on a journey that seemed destined for glory. Just two races into his promising stint in what was then the NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series in December 1993, a dark cloud loomed. A malignant growth on his right thigh changed everything. He’d been full-throttle in the Slim Jim All-Pro Series and had just dipped his toes into what’s now the Xfinity Series. But after that season, the grim reality of cancer struck.

Suddenly, the Elliott family’s dreams of building Casey’s racing career pivoted to a fight for survival. Diagnosed at only 19, Casey waged a tough battle for two years. Tragically, he passed away on January 14, 1996, a mere two months after his cousin Chase was born. Casey was just 21.
